17/04/08 Shane Bradford showing in Dublin
Art Lab artist Shane Bradford shows a range of his latest works in a group show, which inaugurates a new gallery space in Dublin. The exhibition titled 'Twosome Twiminds', showcases three young artists from Ireland and UK.
Shane Bradford shows five works formed as dipped books including 2 new ones: 'Frankenstein' (illustrated) and 'Catch 22' as well as dipped paper planes (illustrated).
The theme for the show is the use of duality, appropriation and transformation, the ability of objects to become something else.
In Shane’s practice books have become sculptural objects, denying access to the reader while remaining eloquent and tactile.
Second-hand books become Shane Bradford’s canvases, which he dips repeatedly in household gloss paint, to create an object that exists in the interstices between painting and sculpture. This transformation creates an entirely different object, the old and the new overlapping to maintain a sense of history and past identity while undermining our own perceptions of what a book is.
