02/07/08 Economic Consultancy assembles collection
Two entirely different abstract artists, Claudiu Ramba and Sarah Medway have been selected for a small art collection at Cambridge Economic Policy Associates, an economic and financial policy advisory business. The company was guided by their interior designer Catherine Mellor, who suggested Art Lab as a source of affordable high quality contemporary art.
Four abstract works by Claudiu Ramba (illustrated) focus on our perception of light and primary colours, while Sarah Medway’s compositions are rooted in the encounter with nature and its sensual qualities. Ramba's art owes much to the fragmented shapes of Cubism, in which multiple views of reality (seen simultaneously as if from above and from the side in repetitive layering) allowed for multiply interpretation of reality.
Claudiu however applies the aspects of Cubism selectively while researching the aesthetic substance of light. His 'resonances' bear the resemblance to the works by first digital artists- American A. Michael Noll and filmmaker John Whitroy. Both artists endeavoured to obtain an entirely new aesthetic experience through the use of new technology, particularly outdated military computing equipment. Ramba’s works seek to define the visual aesthetic of light also by using new technology tools, applying the back to two-dimensional base.
Contemporary feel of the selected artworks for Cambridge Economic Policy Associates sets an interesting contrast to the historic location of the company within historical Lincoln Inn’s Fields.
