17/11/08 Julian Wild’s 'System no 24' the latest addition to the Jerwood Sculpture Collection at Ragley
On 22 October a new work by ArtLab Julian Wild entitled System No 24 was unveiled at Ragley by Alan Grieve, Chairman of Jerwood Foundation. Ragley Hall is the seat of the Marquess and Marchioness of Hertford and Lady Hertford presided over the unveiling of the work.
The work is a site specific commission by Jerwood Foundation following Wild's inclusion on the shortlist for the 2005 Jerwood Sculpture Prize with his proposal titled System No 10.
System No. 24 is made of powder coated stainless steel tubing in the form of translucent urn shape. Ragley Hall itself provides the inspiration for the work with its silk covered walls in the Red Saloon and the classical urns located in the gardens.
From 1999 the founders of Jerwood Sculpture Park have sought to display large sculptures in the natural environment of the Hall; the collection itself is set along the Sculpture Trail, and consists of the works by internationally renowned artists such as Kenneth Armitage, Lynn Chadwick, Anthony Gormley and emerging artist who win the annual Jerwood Sculpture Prize.
