18/02/09 Julian Wild curates the show at Royal British Society of Sculptors
The show is being held at the Royal Society of British Sculptors and will be up until 13 March.
The exhibition looks at the work of six artists that seems to hover between two and three dimensions. The exhibition features the work of Paul Lewthwaite, Andrew Revell, Michael Shaw, Cathy Ward, David Worthington and Julian Wild; these artists are either making two-dimensional works and animations that allude to form and space or three dimensional sculptures that embody flat structures. The theme of ‘virtual’ and its influence upon sculpture is presented through wall-based, digital and sculptural mediums.
Paul Lewthwaite showed his work in Liverpool Biennale and Brunei Gallery and exhibited in the US and Spain. Andrew Ravell is best known for commissions at the Imperial War Museum and Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. Michael Shaw is a recipient of the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation Award and was short listed for Jerwood Sculpture Prize in 2003. Cathy Ward took part in many artist residencies abroad, in US, Canada and the UK. David Worthington’s works are in renowned collections in the US, Japan and UK. Julian Wild’s recent commission was launched at Jerwood Sculpture Park and his work is also featured in Cass Sculpture Foundation.
