10/09/09 Paula Kane showing at Kunskog
Kunskog is a personal collection of drawings by the artist Stuart Pearson Wright. Giving license to the idiosyncrasies of taste, the show embraces the gamut of contemporary drawing from works by Turner Prize winner Gillian Wearing and established artists Paul Noble, Dryden Goodwin and Michael Landy, to Australian polymath Rolf Harris and people who draw in private, Stephen Merchant, Reece Shearsmith, Julian Barrett, John Hurt and David Thewlis. Pearson has also invited non-artists to submit work for the show including friends, his own children and his mother. Kunskog represents an exploration into the concept of drawing for Pearson; it explores what drawing is for different people, comparing drawing as an end in itself with drawing as a way of thinking or simply passing the time. The works range from large scale drawings and video installations to doodles and drawings that harness the ‘potential immediacy’ of the medium. With sixty exhibitors and over 100 drawings Pearson compares Kunskog to ‘a noisy but friendly conversation at a big Greek wedding in a hilltop village.’ Kunskog will be showing from 11 September until 4 October at 500 Dollars, located at 12 Vyner Street, London E2.
