Bill Pryde

These prints by Bill Pryde remind us the work of number of well-known British Artists: Patrick Caulfield in the iconic choice of subject matter and graphic simplicity, Gary Hume in the strong use of colour and flat, stylised manner. But these works are very much Pryde’s own: in these small editions of self-printed screenprints he uses natural forms in an autobiographical context. The spirituality in the broken body as in Corpus, the shadow behind transient flowering as in Sky Blue Life and the self-conscious artifice of design as in the Bonsai series. His work captures the fragility of life forms in their own fleeting dramatic moment.
