Christopher Rutter and Evelyn Bennett

Christopher Rutter and Evelyn Bennett have worked closely together since 1994. In collaboration they have made large scale sculpture for a number of locations including Chichester and Hastings Hospitals and Sculpture at Goodwood. They have exhibited widely and have been artists in residence at a number of schools.

Principally they are interested in working within an architectural and large scale environment, but find outlets for their work in a wide variety of media and situations. They have been awarded a South East Arts Direct Support Grant for incorporating digital technology into their work which has seen expression in large scale digital prints for Moat Housing Association and Hastings Hospital. South East Arts also helped with the production of the ‘Circus’ show at the De La Warr Pavilion in 1998 which also toured to the Aspex Gallery in Portsmouth and Brighton University Gallery.

In collaboration with architects Baker-Brown Mackay they worked on a proposal for the new cultural centre at Sittingbourne and are currently working with architect Fabio Gonzalez-Calzada on work for an exhibition supported by Arts Council England. Their site-specific work often involves close contact with the communities and planners concerned with the projects.
