Meet the artist

Sarah Jeffries

Sarah Jeffries' early work took as her subject matter the politically fraught area of nature verses industry and the manipulation of the environment, the highly successful resulting body of work, referred to by the artist as the barren series, evoked contemporary concerns about our lackadaisical attitude to the environment.

During 2006, this direction changed to intense interiors. The artist finds a photograph of an interior printed in a magazine or published on the internet. The interior must have qualities that suggest an eccentric, forceful and idiosyncratic personality has been responsible for its creation. Jeffries then explores the connections between personality the interior through a rendering of the interior, usually in paint, to reveal universal themes about how human beings relate to, and try to control, private space.

Jeffries continued to work on her paintings of interiors, culminating in a series of works executed in 2008, a selection of which are available through ArtLab.  Since, Jeffries has moved into the outside world and produced paintings that continue to explore the issues of consumption and how consumers identify and define themselves through the objects they buy.
