Claire Dorsett

Claire Dorsett describes herself as a completely visual person - her approach to painting like a private language she is developing, one of oblique biographical references and the occasional familiar visual landmark, but often simply a means to distil and make sense of the world around her. As she explains; <Peeking, glimpsing, reinventing, adventuring into the unknown and turning the ordinary on its head: the paintings evolve from a process of filtration in my mind, both visual and emotional. From these experiences I make drawings and take photographs. Mixed with recordings of strong colour combinations, the two intertwine with one another and my own personal thoughts.> Still early in her career, Dorsett recently earned a first class honours degree in painting, has already had her work exhibited in the Noise festival of emerging talent, Brighton and was highly commended in the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize 2007 Art Competition.
