Working with photography, film, and moving image, Andrews’ work often inhabits the forgotten, peripheral, overlooked and obscured, occurring in both the physical and perceptual. Fascinated by the possibility to evidence phenomena that remain for the most part out of sight, or on the edge of vision, Andrews generates material that seeks to make visible ‘lost time’ - time inaccessible to the naked eye. Characterised by a forensic approach to subject and often occurring outside of the traditional structures of designated ‘work time’, Andrews explores the plasticity and mutability of photographs, film, and digital media, and the possibilities they hold for the delineation of liminal space.

‘Matter Of Time ‘08’
The ‘Matter Of Time’ photographs were made with a single long exposure in a pitch-dark warehouse using a deep-sea divers’ strobe light, a length of rope and the artist's actions. The constellation of illuminated points map a series of flashes of the strobe light made by Andrews moving around the space over time, an action that erases the artist’s presence from within the image and evidence of its making.

‘Untitled, Night-For-Day ’06-’07’
The ‘Untitled Night-For-Day’ series utilise exposures of a cinematic duration in order to gather visual information from locations in the dead of night. Working in places that were familiar to the artist, each image often required numerous visits to obtain a ‘finished’ photograph due to the variables involved when working outside at such low light levels, embedding the images within a performative process.
